Hadieh Afshani has lived in Australia for 10 years before finally moving to the United States. Her paintings are mostly focused on two main topics: women/gender issues and the connection to land. In “The Intimate Experience of Life and Death,” a woman faces her sexual experience with a focus on maximum of joy and happiness, coupled with the depression of a loss. These works depict conflicting feelings and consequences around female sexuality. Afshani discovers her experience and emotions through metaphoric/poetic paintings and drawings of her nest/living place, such as her bedrooms and her living rooms with and without human figures.
